If you usually dread the morning commute, today is the perfect excuse to leave your car in the driveway.
Metro is officially offering free rides across Los Angeles on Wednesday, October 7 in honor of California Clean Air Day.
The region-wide initiative aims to reduce transportation emissions and encourage locals to try a more sustainable, stress-free way to travel.
How to score your free ride across LA today
Taking advantage of the fare-free day is incredibly simple. Riders can hop on buses and trains all day without using TAP cards when boarding.
If you are taking the train, Metro confirmed that all gates and turnstiles will be unlatched for the entire day. You can just walk right through and board your train.
The initiative isn’t just limited to the core LA Metro system. Metrolink and the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) are also participating, offering completely free rides across their networks on Wednesday to help cut down on single-occupancy vehicles.

Free Metro Micro and Bike Share access
If you prefer to pedal your way through the city, you are in luck. Metro Bike Share riders can easily activate bikes with the promo code 100726 for a free 30-minute ride.
Additionally, free Metro Micro trips are available all day. You can book your free trip directly through the Micro app, which is available on the Apple App Store or Google Play.
No code is needed for the Micro rides.
“Taking transit, walking or biking instead of driving alone helps reduce transportation emissions,” the Metro website states. “Clean Air Day is a chance to try a different way to travel, and perhaps find a trip you’ll keep making without your car.”
California Clean Air Day encourages residents statewide to take simple actions to reduce air pollution.
