Santa Monica’s Main Street is going car-free on Sunday, October 18 for a dog-filled afternoon with live music, local vendors, and activities for all ages.
The Main Street Block Party + Day of the Dog runs from noon to 6 p.m. in the Ocean Park neighborhood. The free festival brings together local businesses, families, and dog lovers for a full afternoon of fun community activities.
A giant festival for dogs
The highlight is Day of the Dog – North America’s largest pet festival. Running from noon to 5 p.m., the event features a dog pool party, yoga with dogs, pet vendors, and free pet portraits at the VCA + Venice Paparazzi Pet Photo Booth.
Live music and family-friendly activities
The Main Street Stage on Pier Avenue will feature local student band LGNDZ, Harvelle’s house band, Alligator Beach, and a Red Hot Chili Peppers tribute band.
Families can head to the Kids Corner for free face painting, musical story time with Books & Cookies, soccer activities with Super Soccer Stars, and arts and crafts.
For those looking to get active, Main Street’s WRX will offer free one-hour fitness circuits at noon and 3 p.m., featuring Z Bounce Method, boxing, and yoga.
The celebration will also mark 100 years of Route 66. At 3 p.m., Ina Bakes Studio and Santa Monica Travel & Tourism will host a giant cake cutting with complimentary cake and dog treats.
Help support local animals
The festival will also raise money for the Santa Monica Animal Shelter Foundation. At the Vodka for Dog People Beer Garden, visitors can get a Tito’s cocktail ticket for $10, with $8 going to the foundation. Organizers hope to raise $4,000 for local animals.
The event is free and open to all ages, making it an easy way to spend a Sunday afternoon with friends, family, and four-legged companions.
