After more than six years away, Souplantation is officially making its return to Southern California! The beloved all-you-can-eat soup and salad chain is set to reopen in 2027.
This new location is giving fans another chance to enjoy the comfort-food classics they have missed since the restaurant closed all its locations in 2020.
Souplantation is coming back to California
According to their announcement on Instagram, Souplantation will reopen its first California location in Fountain Valley near Talbert Avenue and Newhope Street. The restaurant will return under its original Souplantation name rather than Sweet Tomatoes, its sister brand.
The company has not yet announced an exact reopening date for 2027.
The buffet favorites are coming back
For longtime fans, Souplantation was about more than an all-you-can-eat salad bar. The restaurant became known for its variety of soups, fresh salads, baked potatoes, and freshly baked blueberry muffins.
Some of the chain’s most memorable menu items included Yankee Clipper clam chowder, beef chili, and tarragon tuna salad. Its combination of comfort food and affordable buffet dining made it a popular destination for families and casual meals.
The chain first opened in 1978 and eventually operated 97 locations across the country, including 44 in California. However, the COVID-19 pandemic forced the company to close all its restaurants in 2020.
Souplantation fans have kept the nostalgia alive
Even after its closure, Souplantation has maintained a loyal following. The demand has been so strong that similar restaurants have emerged to fill the gap.
Soup ‘n Fresh, a Souplantation-inspired buffet in Rancho Cucamonga, opened in 2024 and drew crowds eager to revisit the all-you-can-eat experience. It later expanded to a second Southern California location in Chino Hills.
Now, Souplantation’s own return gives fans another reason to celebrate. For Southern Californians who have spent years missing the salad bar, warm soups, and famous muffins, 2027 could finally bring back a familiar favorite.
