The Santa Monica Pier is celebrating Día de los Muertos with a special tribute to Pedro Infante, one of Mexico’s most beloved actors and singers. The two-day event takes place on October 31 and November 1 with colorful altars, live performances, and cultural activities at the historic Merry Go-Round building.
Now in its seventh year, the free celebration brings the community together to honor loved ones who have passed away while celebrating Mexican culture.
A special tribute to Pedro Infante
Pedro Infante was one of the biggest stars of Mexico’s Golden Age of cinema. He appeared in more than 60 films and recorded over 350 songs before his death in 1957. His music and movies remain popular today.
As part of the celebration, the Santa Monica Pier will feature traditional ofrendas, or altars honoring the dead, decorated with marigolds and papel picado.
The displays will be set up inside the historic Merry Go-Round building, giving visitors a chance to explore the artwork and learn more about the tradition.
What to expect at the celebration
The program includes a classic car cruise, face painting, a traditional Aztec blessing, mariachi music, and performances by Santa Monica Ballet Folklórico. The afternoon will also feature live music by Brotherhood.
Visitors are encouraged to wear Día de los Muertos-inspired outfits and join a procession led by Aztec dancers. And visitors who want to honor a loved one can bring a photograph for the community altar.
The Santa Monica Pier’s Día de los Muertos celebration offers a chance to enjoy traditional music, art, and dance while honoring the legacy of Pedro Infante and remembering loved ones.
