The Broad isn’t called Emily, but it is officially going to Paris!
The downtown L.A. museum is shipping 164 works to the Frank Gehry-designed Fondation Louis Vuitton.
This major partnership marks the most extensive exhibition of the Broad collection ever presented outside of Los Angeles. The showcase will run from April 21 to Aug. 30, 2027.
The exhibition will feature leading postwar and contemporary figures, including major pieces by Yayoi Kusama, Takashi Murakami, and William Kentridge.
Making room for a major expansion

This overseas journey happens during a massive physical transition for the museum. The Broad is currently building a $100-million, 55,000-square-foot expansion.
Founding director Joanne Heyler noted that the Paris exhibition will take place during the most intense final stages of downtown construction.
The art will return to L.A. for the grand opening in 2028, debuting 70% more gallery space ahead of the Summer Olympics.
Keeping art in the local community
While the Paris exhibition is a massive global milestone, The Broad is also keeping its roots local. The museum is simultaneously launching a partnership with Art + Practice in Leimert Park.
Co-founded by artist Mark Bradford, the nonprofit will share works and resources with The Broad for at least two years.
This ensures the collection continues to have a vibrant, accessible life right here in Los Angeles while the downtown campus prepares for its next era.
