Get ready for cozy season because the evenings are about to get a lot shorter. Los Angeles is preparing for an earlier sunset as Daylight Saving Time comes to an end this Sunday, November 1.
At 2 a.m. on Sunday, clocks across California will fall back one hour, marking the return to Pacific Standard Time. The change means the sun will set around 5 p.m. in Los Angeles, rather than closer to 6 p.m. as it has in recent weeks.
That means anyone heading out after work or planning an evening stroll will soon be doing it in the dark.
When does the sun set in Los Angeles in November?
According to the Griffith Observatory’s 2026 sunrise and sunset calendar, the sunset in Los Angeles will occur at approximately 5 p.m. on November 1. By Monday, November 2, the sun will disappear below the horizon at 4:59 p.m., with sunset getting progressively earlier throughout the month.
The change will be particularly noticeable during the first week of November. Here’s when Angelenos can expect sunset in the coming days:
- November 1: 5:00 p.m.
- November 2: 4:59 p.m.
- November 3: 4:58 p.m.
- November 4: 4:57 p.m.
- November 5: 4:56 p.m.
- November 6: 4:56 p.m.
- November 7: 4:55 p.m.
By the end of November, the sunset in Los Angeles will arrive around 4:43 p.m.
Why is it getting dark earlier?
Daylight Saving Time ends on the first Sunday of November each year. This year, clocks will go back one hour on November 1.
That means brighter mornings but earlier sunsets, so it will start getting dark much sooner in the evening.
The days will continue getting shorter until December 21, the winter solstice and the shortest day of the year.
If you’ve been enjoying those after-work golden-hour walks, now’s the time to make the most of them!
