Horror fans in Los Angeles will have a special way to spend Christmas this year. Robert Eggers’ highly anticipated horror film Werwulf is getting a limited 35mm theatrical release, and L.A. is one of just 17 locations across the United States selected to screen it in the original film format.
The special screenings will take place at Alamo Drafthouse Downtown LA, giving local moviegoers the opportunity to experience Eggers’ latest unsettling creation on the big screen using 35mm film.
What is Robert Eggers’ Werwulf about?
Set in 13th-century England, Werwulf follows a mysterious creature stalking the countryside as local folklore begins turning into a terrifying reality. The film promises another atmospheric period horror experience from Eggers, whose previous work includes The Witch, The Lighthouse, The Northman, and Nosferatu.
The movie reunites several familiar faces from Eggers’ previous projects including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp, and Willem Dafoe. Ralph Ineson and Bodhi Rae Breathnach also star in the film.
Eggers co-wrote the screenplay with Sjón, his collaborator on The Northman. The production also features historically informed dialogue, including Old English, adding another layer of authenticity to its medieval setting.
