We can’t wait to spend full days in here!
Last year, Amoeba announced the permanent closure of the beloved Hollywood location. With many businesses shutting down for good during the pandemic, Angelenos naturally assumed the institution would be yet another causality. However, owners announced that it was a strategic decision to help them stay afloat and would allow them to focus their resources on developing the new space down the road at 6200 Hollywood Boulevard.
Although the famed music destination was teetering on the edge of closure, their determination to survive led to the launch of a GoFundMe page which was used to cover healthcare for employees and bridge costs while they weren’t operating. The closure of nonessential businesses made it the perfect time to work on renovation in the location and now, after almost a year, the new location will open on Thursday, April 1.
As part of the opening day celebrations, there will be exclusive posters by L.A: artist Ivan Minsloff gifted with each purchase (only while supplies last). A live t-shirt silk-screening using the artist’s design will also be happening in the courtyard of the El Centro complex on April 1st starting at 11:30 am until 4 pm. You’ll be able to purchase a commemorative t-shirt at the register for $10 and take your voucher outside where Family Industries will do the honors.
It may only be one story, but it has varying levels but it looks primed for the ritual of flipping through the beautiful vinyl covers with infectious songs transporting you to another world. From the photos shared on Instagram, it seems to have everything we’ve come to know and love about Amoeba: Vinyl, turntables, t-shirts, accessories, and DVDs & Blu-ray.
As expected, there’ll be a number of health and safety protocols in place which include the elimination of seating within the store and restricted use of restrooms. You can read the full list here.
Those wanting to enter the store will line up on Argyle Blvd. Customers who have more than 10 items to sell or trade will line up for the buy counter on Hollywood Blvd. If you have less than 10 items you can join the standard line in-store.
Hours: Monday to Sunday 11 am – 8 pm (The buy counter is open 11 am – 7 pm)
Location: 6200 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90028
