Pacific Surfliner is back. The train route has resumed weekend service after being closed for construction work aimed at stabilizing the tracks between Los Angeles and San Diego. Amtrak is currently offering a 25% discount on weekend trips aboard the Pacific Surfliner trains to celebrate the milestone. The promotion is only valid for Saturday and Sunday travel (and only for a limited time), as the trains will not run on weekdays due to ongoing construction.
According to Amtrak, this section of the track has been successfully updated and rail service has resumed following a positive safety assessment. To take advantage of the promotion, interested travelers can visit the Amtrak website, book by phone, or at the station using the promotion code V328.
While San Diego isn’t too far away, Angelenos tend to catch more rays in the traffic on the way there than on the beach. The Pacific Surfliner is not only the most scenic route—and possibly one of the most picturesque on the entire Amtrak network—it’s also the most seamless way to get there. Now, with this weekend discount in place, it will also be the most affordable.
If you don’t already know, the Pacific Surfliner is a 351-mile track that stops in San Diego, Orange, Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo counties, with significant portions of the route hugging Southern California’s breathtaking coastline.
If it wasn’t obvious that we’re huge fans of this dreamy Amtrak service, we’ll also highlight that it’s also a key portion of this epic train journey across the whole of America. You can take a leisurely ride around the entire country, staring out the wide windows as cross through parts you would never otherwise see. There’s even Wifi for any remote workers looking for a little change of scenery.
