When the series was first launched in mid-April, we were treated to the 1999 showing of Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Then we enjoyed Jesus Christ Superstar, with the 2012 arena production of the beloved musical. Next we got The Phantom Of The Opera, which was recorded in 2011 as part of the show’s 25th anniversary celebrations, and sequel Love Never Dies. Last week (May 7) was a lesser-known entry from the Andrew Lloyd Webber canon: By Jeeves.
And the final show, this Friday, May 15, will be an iconic one: Cats! Cats, of course, follows the story of the “Jellicle Cats” who come out to sing and dance one night every year, the Jellicle Ball, when one of them is selected to ascend to the “Heaviside Layer” and come back as a new cat. It’s based on the T.S. Elliot poem “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats.” Despite its rather unique plot (or lack thereof?), it is one of the longest-running shows in Broadway (and West End, London) history, and of course was even more famous recently for the…interesting…movie adaptation.
If you weren’t able to see it while it was on stage, it will stream on YouTube here for 48 hours beginning May 15 at 2pm EST!
