California’s famous superblooms are known to attract thousands of eager visitors every single year, and Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve is always at the top of our social feeds.
After another dazzling season of blooming poppy fields this past March and April, the state park topped the California State Parks Foundation’s superlative list of the “Best of California State Parks” for 2026, voted the “Best California State Park for Wildflowers.” The park also happened to celebrate its 50th anniversary last month.
Out of the 12 California state parks featured, Antelope Valley is the closest one to Los Angeles. You can reach it in 1.5 hours by car.

The California State Parks Foundation held a vote across thousands of parkgoers throughout California to create the final list of superlatives for this year. The winners were as follows:

Visiting Antelope Valley
The best time to visit Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve is from mid-March through April, although the annual poppy bloom varies greatly year to year. While 2026 wasn’t a major “superbloom” year, the valley still had a good turnout with scattered blankets of poppies.
