Griffith Park’s Free Shakespeare Festival Returns This June

The Independent Shakespeare Company is gearing up for another show-stopping round of performances!

We feel pretty confident in saying that Shakespeare in the park is arguably one of the best free things happening in Los Angeles this summer! Starting on June 29, the Independent Shakespeare Company (ISC) is putting on another incredible edition of their iconic festival at the Old Zoo located in Griffith Park. This year, there will be two productions performed in repertory (meaning they run concurrently on rotating dates): Twelfth Night directed by David Melville and Pericles directed by Melissa Chalsma. Each performance will be held Wednesday through Sunday and begin at 7 p.m. each night.

Twelfth Night begins its run on Saturday, June 29, and ends on Sunday, September 1. Pericles starts up on Saturday, July 27 and wraps on Friday, August 30. Be sure to leave a note on your calendar that there will be no performances held on July 4, 24, 25 or 26.

To assure that fans of the annual production remain entertained and excited to return, ISC will present an expansive offering of events and specially themed-nights attached to this year’s lineup. This includes family education workshops presented by Players in the Park, a pirate night, performances by the Invertigo Dance Theatre, as well as an audience pot luck! (Nothing can beat a good ol’ fashion picnic.)

Remember: all performances are free, but the productions do cost money – so donations are welcome, whether online or in-person. This year ISC has a campaign goal of $100,000 and to date have already raised $40,000!

Location: The Old Zoo at Griffith Park, 4801 Griffith Park Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90027. See it on Google maps.
