A decadent date night that’s guaranteed to satisfy.
Better Than Sex was created by confectionery power couple Dani and Len Johnson after turning their passion for sweet treats, and each other, into a bucket list stop in Key West’s Petronia Street. At this late-night joint, dessert is the main event. Naturally, people fell in love with the experience and it’s steadily growing into a sweet tooth’s empire with gorgeous, intimate outposts in Plano, Savannah, Greenville, Orlando and now Los Angeles.
You’ll enter a candlelit red-and-black setting with ornate chandeliers hanging from the ceilings, plush velvet accents and large-scale risque photographs adorning the walls. Here, Valentine’s Day is an everyday affair. Everything on the menu is designed to pleasure your palate and ignite fireworks—that includes the beverages. You could start the night with a social lubricant like one of the “rimmed” wines or beers which come with, um, lickable creations dripping off the rims.
There are options like the “G-Spot,” a caramel-rimmed glass of Cabernet Blanc with grapefruit, spices and cinnamon to tickle the palate. West Hollywood’s signature option is the “Melrose” made with rose syrup crafted from real rose petals, topped with La Marca Prosecco and a Callebaut white chocolate rim and garnished with edible dried roses and pink glitter.
Depending on your mood, you could indulge in playful cocktails like the “Just a Gigolo” that pairs Grey Goose Vodka and Hpnotiq then it adds some sugar with blue raspberry, orange juice and rimmed with edible rainbow confetti for that touch of fun. For virgins, there are options like the “Koochie Koochie Kola, “Two Leaves and a Bud” and more.
Now, for the naughty bits. The desserts. For an irresistible, salty-sweet-buttery bite there’s the “Popcorn Pimp” cheesecake, or fill your mouth with a silky smooth, vodka infused “Kinky Key West Lime Pie” with a macadamia-kissed pie crust. A popular option is “Between My Red Velvet Sheets Cheesecake” featuring red velvet flavored cheesecake on a bed of cookie dough, mounted with cream cheese frosting.
For a cheeky end to the night, you can go for shooters like the coffee and cream combination of the “Money Shot” or the “Lucky Shot,” an Irish cream liqueur with a head of white chocolate mousse.
The doors have been wide open since March, so if this has you drooling, you can make a reservation and prepare yourself for a night of innuendo and incredible delights.
