Just weeks after losing their first two eggs of the season, breached by ravens, Jackie and Shadow are back at the nest, and the signs of new life are here. Tuesday, February 24, in the afternoon, Jackie laid the first egg of what may become their second clutch of the season.
As reported by Friends of Big Bear Valley, as the afternoon progressed, Jackie moved to a squatting position, letting out a few squeals and flapping her tail while rousing her feathers. Our feathered queen typically lays two to three eggs per clutch, spaced roughly three days apart, so the valley’s fans are already watching closely for the next egg, expected as early as Friday.
While the season remains uncertain, this first egg of the second clutch brings renewed hope for Big Bear’s beloved bald eagle family, and livestream viewers continue to follow their journey with anticipation.
For now, the devoted parents are sticking to their routine: snuggling together in the nest, adjusting feathers and sticks, and making it as cozy as possible for the next generation of eaglets.
