Frank Gehry is undoubtedly one of the most prestigious and celebrated architects of our time, known, among other things, for his groundbreaking creations. One of them, perhaps one of the city’s most iconic landmarks alongside the Walt Disney Concert Hall, is the Binoculars Building, which has officially hit the market.
The emblematic Venice Beach building has served as the headquarters of tech giant Google since 2011, and it was recently confirmed that it’s now up for sale. While the official asking price hasn’t been disclosed, some industry sources speculate it could be close to $120 million.
Completed in 1991 for the advertising agency TBWA\Chiat\Day, the Binoculars Building is most famous for the towering 44-foot sculpture of binoculars at its entrance. Designed by artists Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen, the massive artwork also functions as the gateway to the parking garage. The property was later acquired by W.P. Carey in 1995 for $18.3 million.
