Just as college plays a huge role in shaping a person’s professional future, high schools also have a major impact. They can either open doors to top universities or make the path harder. Luckily, Los Angeles County is home to one of the best.
According to the latest rankings from the San Francisco Chronicle, Whitney High School in Cerritos outperformed expectations by sending more students to the state’s most selective University of California campuses (UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC Irvine, UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, and UC San Diego) than any other public school in the state.
Whitney High topped the list, with 50 more UC admits per 100 seniors than predicted. The school’s 2023–24 senior class earned 131 UC acceptances, far surpassing the predicted 81. The state average? Just 23 per 100 seniors.
Whitney’s excellence is also reflected in another prestigious study by U.S. News, which also places the high school #1 among California public high schools and #16 nationally. The ranking considers state-required test performance, graduation rates, and college readiness.
