California is undergoing a wave of massive infrastructure projects being developed, from Irvine’s Great Park to the world’s largest wildlife crossing or the new rail connection serving Pacoima and the San Fernando Valley, just to name a few.
And now, luckily for thrill seekers, another ambitious piece of infrastructure has officially cleared a major hurdle: a sprawling inland surf resort is coming to the state.
Meet Alchemy, California’s largest inland surf resort

NorCal’s Placer County Planning Commission approved plans on September 24, 2026, to build The Alchemy Surf Resort. The project will be built within Placer One, a 2,000-plus-acre master-planned community just north of Roseville, on a site north of Placer One Boulevard, east of Foothills Boulevard North and south of the planned Placer Parkway.
Spanning roughly 32 acres, the resort will be centered around a five-acre artificial surf lagoon powered by Wavegarden Cove technology, with 56 modules generating 20 different types of waves across four zones. The setup will offer 20- to 25-second rides and sessions for everyone from beginners to experienced surfers.
The approved plans also include a 64,000-square-foot, 100-room hotel, 22 bungalows and a 28,390-square-foot Surf Center. But the development goes well beyond surfing, with a mix of action sports, recreation, wellness, dining and overnight accommodations designed to make the property a destination in its own right.
- 🌊 The Wave: The lagoon will offer four surfing zones, with waves tailored to different skill levels, from first-timers learning the basics to experienced riders looking for more challenging sessions.
- 🧗 The Activities: A deep-water standing wave, climbing wall, skatepark, pump track and kids’ zone will join the Surf Center, training and fitness facilities and a dedicated Action Sports Hub with trampolines and indoor skate facilities.
- 🏝️ The Resort: Plans call for a Surf Lodge and members’ clubhouse alongside food and beverage venues, retail and event space, plus a Beach Club, infinity pools and cabanas.
- 🛏️ The Stay: Overnight options will include bungalows with private patios, powered spaces for Sprinter vans and the 100-key hotel, which will also feature a rooftop bar.
The sprawling size of the resort is expected to make it the largest inland surf destination in the state. Construction is expected to take roughly 18 to 24 months after breaking ground in spring 2027, meaning the resort could potentially open by 2029.
