Catch One in Arlington Heights, L.A. opened as Jewel’s Catch One in 1973 and is regarded as one of the first major nightclubs in the U.S. to serve the Black LGBTQ+ community and among the oldest Black‑owned discos in the country. Over the decades, its guest list has featured legends from Madonna to Sammy Davis Jr., yet this Los Angeles club has remained famously inclusive and welcoming to everyone. Nowadays, inside its distinctive Mediterranean Revival–style building, Catch One hosts a vibrant mix of club nights, themed parties and concerts that keep its historic spirit very much alive.
This season, Catch One is also hosting An Idiot’s Guide to Wine—a hilarious comedy show paired with a curated tasting of six different wine varietals. The experience is written by Merrick Watts—currently the only comedian in the world with a WSET Level 3 qualification—bringing together sharp comic timing and genuine wine expertise in a way you rarely see.

What makes Catch One in Los Angeles so special?
When it was founded by Jewel Thais-Williams in 1973, Catch One instantly became a refuge for queer people of color. Aside from being a popular nightlife spot, this place also doubled up as a vital support hub for the LGBTQ+ community. In 1989, together with her partner Rue Thais-Williams, Jewel established Rue’s House in the same building to provide housing and services for women and children living with HIV and AIDS.
Over the years, this famous nightclub in Los Angeles has welcomed stars like Madonna, Bette Midler, Sammy Davis Jr., Warren Beatty, Chaka Khan and Rick James. Madonna actually celebrated the launch of her album Music at Jewel’s Catch One in Los Angeles on September 13, 2000.
Today, Catch One operates with five distinct event spaces spread across two levels, plus an outdoor patio. Every week, they host a wide range of music from hip hop, house, techno, and EDM to live bands and nostalgic Y2K-themed nights.

If you’re driving, the easiest route is via the 10 freeway, exiting near Arlington Ave and continuing along Pico Blvd to the venue. Catch One has on-site parking right next to the building, and there are also paid lots and street parking in the immediate area.
