In 2025, we mark the 101st anniversary of the creation of one of the most delicious and legendary all-American dishes: the cheeseburger. A staple of pop culture and fast food worldwide, this innovative burger was the brainchild of Lionel Sternberger, a Pasadena resident who had the brilliant idea to add cheese to a burger at just 16 years old.
Since 2011, Pasadena has honored this historic and game-changing moment for restaurant owners and burger lovers alike with special deals and offers. Local eateries compete for various titles, ranging from Best Lunch Counter Burger to Best Veggie Burger. This year, the event will run from February 23 to March 1, 2025.
To make the celebration even better, New York Chicken & Gyros will offer its signature cheeseburger for free (dine-in only) throughout Cheeseburger Week. But that’s not all—many other local restaurants are serving up incredible deals and special menu items, including:
