5 Of The Best Places To Celebrate Cinco De Mayo In LA This Weekend

By Malia Wooten

Cinco de Mayo is upon us!

The fifth of May is commonly mistaken as Mexican Independence Day – but did you know that it actually commemorates the underdog victory against France in the 1862 Battle of Puebla?

Fast forward to the new millennium and the mostly American-celebrated holiday has become more of a tradition to eat delicious foods and to down dangerous amounts of margaritas. (Thank you commercialism!) Wherever your drive for partaking in festivities lies (and hopefully they’re culturally appropriate… you know better), we’ve got a list of five of the most festive Cinco de Mayo events happening in the city.

1. Cinco De Mayo Margarita Festival

Enjoy complimentary margaritas from 15 of the most creative bartenders in Los Angeles as they compete to make the best margaritas in town…the judge? You of course! Visit all 15 stations and vote for the winner whilst listening to some rocking tunes all evening! Buy your tickets here!

2. Here’s To The Puppets Who Lunch!

Kick off your Cinco De Mayo festivities at this hysterical boozy lunch! If you’re a fan of theater, food, or tequila then brace yourselves, because Fever has something up their sleeve that may tickle your fancy. You’re invited to join L.A.’s most fabulous marionettes for a delicious luncheon and show that will have you bursting with laughter! Did we mention that there would be bottomless margaritas made with La Grintona tequila? Buy your tickets here!

3. Lucha Vavoom: Cinco de Mayan

Lucha Vavoom is like nothing you’ve ever seen before! People go crazy for this unique combo of authentic Mexican wrestling combined with insane performances and comedy! Watch luchadores body slam, pounce, and pulverize their competitors, as dreamy burlesque dancers charm and enchant the crowd! Grab your costume and join the fun from May 3 through May 5. 4. Lobster Brunch at La Brisa in Laguna Beach

Head down to the OC this Sunday to treat yourself to brunch with an ocean-view! La Brisa is serving up a set-menu lobster for two with 2-2.5 pound lobsters, rice and beans, tortillas, chips and guac, and a full margarita pitcher for only $115! Now is the time to ask yourself… what’s better than a great view, great food, and a great live mariachi band performance? Learn more here!

5. Babylon Cabaret: 7 Deadly Sins

End the night with a show featuring some of LA’s hottest performers in a uniquely vintage world of original live music, sultry singers, sexy burlesque dancers, hilarious hosts, fascinating magicians, and other floor-show specialties! It’s not exactly Cinco de Mayo themed – but there will be drinks and a storyline detailing the overindulgence of the ’20s and ’30s in the true city of sin- Hollywood, so a celebration it definitely will be! Buy your tickets here.
