If you’re the kind of person who can spend hours browsing shelves of Blu-rays (despite having access to streaming services), or debating which director’s cut reigns supreme, this event is made for you. Think of the Criterion Collection as a dream video store on wheels, where you’ll be surrounded by cinematic gold from the moment you step inside.
Partnering with the American Cinematheque at the Aero Theatre, the Criterion Mobile Closet will be open to the public for two days only this weekend, with free admission. You just need to show up and dive into a treasure trove of cinema.
Inside the Mobile Closet, you’ll find more than 1,000 in-print titles from the Criterion Collection, including box sets and releases from the Eclipse and Janus Contemporaries lines. Visitors can even record their own Closet video, sharing favorite picks from the shelves.
Each guest will have three minutes to explore the space, with entry handled on a first-come, first-served basis. While supplies last, you’ll walk away with a Criterion tote bag, a pocket guide to the collection, and a Polaroid photo featuring your film choices.
To celebrate Criterion’s 40th anniversary, guests can also purchase up to three items at a 40% discount, plus a limited selection of merchandise (credit cards only).
