Looks like L.A. is getting a blast from the past—the Staples Center is back! Los Angeles’ most iconic sports and entertainment venue is getting its old name back. After a brief but somewhat controversial rebranding as Crypto.com Arena, the downtown landmark will once again be known as the Staples Center by the end of April.
The name change marks a return to familiarity for Lakers, Kings, and Clippers fans who never fully embraced the shift. Plus, the Staples Center, home of the Los Angeles Lakers, was “the house that Kobe built.” With this reversal, the arena restores a piece of L.A. history, proving that some names are more than just branding—they’re part of the city’s identity.

Many Angelenos have never called the arena by its new moniker, preferring instead to keep calling it the Staples Center. Some of have said it’s due to Crypto.com Arena being too hard to pronounce. And others loved the original name because it reminded them of attending their first concert when they were young.
The surprising news comes just in time for the summer season of concerts and other special events. When the weather warms up, Crypto.com Arena (soon to be Staples Center again) becomes an even bigger hotspot for entertainment. Angelenos can look forward to incredible performances by the Wu-Tang Clan, Sabrina Carpenter, and Kylie Minogue.
We reached out to Crypto.com Arena for further comment and a representative stated, “APRIL FOOLS!” Sorry, Angelenos, the home of the Lakers isn’t changing names anytime soon.
