What started off as a tweet by Elon Musk is now coming to fruition. The entrepreneur’s plans for a Tesla Diner and drive-in movie theater in West Hollywood have officially received approval.
“Gonna put an old school drive-in, roller skates & rock restaurant at one of the new Tesla Supercharger locations in LA,” read the 2018 tweet by Musk.
On August 9, 2023, the review was completed and granted, which officially gave Tesla the go-ahead to move forward with the construction of its project. These plans have been in motion for a while. In 2022, the company submitted the necessary applications and the City of Los Angeles approved the plan and issued the permit on July 18, 2023 — which granted the company permission to grade the site.
The location of the upcoming project is set at 7001 W. Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA. According to Musk and the plans, the diner will feature 32 Supercharger stalls, a restaurant along with rooftop seating, and two movie theater screens that will showcase highlight reels of films.
There is no official word yet as to when the Tesla Diner will come to life, but the Tesla did tease on X (formerly Twitter) that they are projecting to open later this year. Ed Howard has designed renderings based on the plans of the Tesla Diner to provide a visual idea of what the diner may look like.
From Tesla tunnels to tequila, the company is known for aiming beyond its known electric cars — and this Hollywood diner is just one on the list of extensive ideas and creations by the company.
