The National Weather Service in Los Angeles announced another excessive heat warning last week for Southern California. And it is still in effect until 8:00 pm tonight Tuesday, Sept. 10. Temperatures could be 10 to 20 degrees above normal. Daytime highs are expected to be between 95 to 105 degrees with moderate to high heat impacts.
Augmented Cooling Centers in L.A.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced on Monday that she is using City of Los Angeles resources to prepare for the coming heat wave. She requested that the City “take immediate action to protect Angelenos over the coming days” and has “released resources to assist Angelenos in staying cool.” The City of Los Angeles immediately opened augmented cooling centers across the city. They announced “hundreds of locations open for relief from the heat including Recreation and Parks facilities and local library branches.”
Additionally, a dedicated cooling center called ReFresh Spot will offer access to drinking water, restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities for the Skid Row community. It will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Plus, it’s free of charge and open to anyone in the community.
