If you’re from Riverside or San Bernardino County, you’re in luck—the new “Experience Metrolink” promotion is currently offering free rides to commuters from the Inland Empire, and it could save you a few hundred dollars. Eligible travelers can enjoy the promotion during a 90-day window, launched this spring in an effort to promote ridership and reduce traffic congestion.
The Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC) and the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) partnered to offer “Experience Metrolink” as part of the IE Commuter Program. The tickets are good to use for any rides in Southern California that originate out of the Inland Empire.
Given that Metrolink’s standard monthly pass costs $78, travelers are looking at some decent savings over the 90-day period.
How can I sign up for free Metrolink tickets?
Riverside and San Bernardino County residents may request their 90 days of free tickets via the following process. Importantly, make sure your IE Commuter and Metrolink accounts use the same email address.
- Create an account or log in to IE Commuter
- Request your free tickets—they will appear in the Metrolink App Ticket Wallet within three business days
- Download the Metrolink App to access your free tickets for 90 days after the date of acquisition
You can visit IECommuter.org/RideFree or call 1-866-RIDESHARE (866-743-3742) to learn more.
Why is Metrolink offering free tickets?
Experience Metrolink was launched in March to encourage Metrolink ridership, giving IE residents an opportunity to try out an alternative to driving. The promotion is funded by a grant from Caltrans’ Low Carbon Transit Operations Program (LCTOP), which works to decrease emissions and improve mobility.
“Whether you are commuting to work or exploring southern California, Metrolink provides a relaxing way to travel,” said Karen Spiegel, Chair of the RCTC. “With Experience Metrolink, more residents can discover the convenience of passenger rail and experience firsthand how the service can fit into their daily routines.”
