Sadly, an iconic longtime Hollywood prop house is closing its doors. Faux Library Studio Props has supplied countless Hollywood film sets with books – both fake and real, antique furniture, and various other props and decor for over 24 years.
Faux Books and Film Props
Faux Library Studio Props owner, Marc Meyer, is credited as the inventor of the faux book. He realized that dressing sets would be much easier if the books were lighter and easier to carry. Once he started replacing the book pages with foam and adding striped wallpaper around the edges, the fake book trend took off.
The 90,000 square foot prop warehouse is packed full of almost everything needed to dress a film set. Faux Library Studio Props has “a rich collection valued at around 6 million which specializes in antique furniture, and other décor elements for film and television sets.”
Closeout Sale
But now, the Faux Library Studio Props is having a full closeout sale by auctioning off everything in three phases. The first phase ended on Feb. 27th. The second phase ends on March 6th, and the the third phase ends on March 20th.

Stay in L.A.
Sadly, this is not a new occurrence for many Hollywood film businesses. Many local businesses have faced distress after the Covid-19 pandemic, the Hollywood strike, and L.A. wildfires.
So a new campaign to increase film production in L.A. is steadily gaining support from Hollywood A-listers. The “Stay in LA” campaign aims to boost film production by encouraging companies to stay or return to the L.A. area.
“Stay in LA” says “there’s no place like home.” And of course, all Angelenos agree – there’s no place like L.A. And it’s heartbreaking that yet another L.A. film production business is having to shut its doors. Treasure a piece of Hollywood by taking home one of these film props for yourself.
