This may come as no surprise, but all the rain Los Angeles has received this past month is breaking records. The multiple storms across Southern California along with an atmospheric river have contributed to February being ranked as one of the wettest months in history.
According to the National Weather Service of Los Angeles (NWS LA), the rainfall seen in February 2024 is one of the wettest months in 26 years — since February 1998.
“Downtown Los Angeles has received 1.99 inches of rain so far from this latest storm, bringing the total rainfall for February 2024 to 12.56 inches,” said NWS LA. “This is now the 4th wettest February in Downtown Los Angeles since records began in 1877. It is the wettest month in 26 years, since February 1998, which happened to be the wettest February ever with 13.68 inches of rain.”
