If you grew up in Southern California, then chances are you also grew up snacking on Hot Cheetos. The memories of sneakily eating these spicy chips in class and walking around with red stained fingers is truly a universal experience.
Not many know that the beloved snack was actually born right here at home and also has quite the backstory.
The awe-inspiring birth behind Hot Cheetos came from the mind of a janitor named Richard Montañez at Frito-Lay’s Rancho Cucamonga plant. Influenced by his culture and roots, he pitched the flavor of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. His idea would change up the food industry for good.
Now there’s an upcoming biographical film — being directed by Eva Longoria — that tells his story on the big screen.
In honor of its release, LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes, Searchlight, and Hulu are teaming up to throw the ultimate movie night screening in L.A.
This Friday, June 2, 2023, Angelenos can expect yummy Flamin’ Hot cheetos-inspired food and craft vendors will be available, plenty of photo opportunities like classic cars, flower walls, and a free movie screening of the film. This special night doesn’t stop there. The screening will be culminated with an introduction by Director Eva Longoria herself who will be joined by lead cast members Jesse Garcia and Annie Gonzalez. Also in attendance will be the true main character, Richard Montañez himself.
This will surely be a memorable night celebrating an inspiring story.
