We grew up seeing air taxis in movies, and more recently, they’ve become a reality in cities like Dubai. Now, Los Angeles is getting ready to join the list. Electric air taxis are expected to be part of the transportation mix at the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Archer Aviation, the company behind the technology, has been named the Official Air Taxi Provider for LA28 and Team USA.
The futuristic partnership aims to integrate Archer’s Midnight aircraft into the LA28 experience, with plans to transport fans, VIPs, and stakeholders between key venues. The collaboration may also include infrastructure for takeoff and landing hubs (known as vertiports), as well as support for emergency response and security teams.
The games are expected to bring more than 15 million visitors to the region, and traffic congestion is likely to be a challenge. Archer says its short-hop flights, lasting around 10 to 20 minutes, could offer an alternative to ground transportation for those traveling between high-traffic areas.
Midnight, the aircraft central to the deal, carries four passengers plus a pilot and produces less noise and emissions than a helicopter. As part of Archer’s plan, the LA network would include vertiports at key Olympic venues like SoFi Stadium and the LA Memorial Coliseum, with potential stops at LAX, Santa Monica, Hollywood, and Orange County.
