This DTLA Restaurant Serves Deep-Fried Marijuana Leaves

Don’t worry, you won’t feel a “high” after eating the cooked herb! 🍁

Shibumi, a sushi restaurant based in DTLA, introduced a rather unique menu item earlier this year and the town is still not over how bizarre it is. During a 4/20 celebration, the secluded 40-seat eatery began to serve deep-fried marijuana leaves – but before stoners across town begin to rejoice, it’s worth mentioning that the leaves don’t contain any Tetrahydrocannabinol, commonly known as THC.

The leaves are purchased without the primary psychoactive component in the cannabis plant. So rather than giving you the feeling that you’re on cloud nine, the tempura battered mary jane leaf is expected to give consumers a soothing effect. Chef and owner, David Schlosser, assures restaurant goers that the leaves only have cannabidiol (CBD), which is the composition of cannabis which is used in most cannabis-based medicines.

Though the dish could be easily be turned into a something that could get you high with the infusion of THC cannabis oil, chef Schlosser chose to go a different route. Maybe in the near future, a THC dipping sauce will be served alongside the leafy green experience; but as of right now, it’s just plant for thought.
