Los Angeles County Metro is offering free rides across its entire system this holiday season, including bus and rail lines, Metro Micro, and Metro Bike Share. Here’s what you need to know:
Metro Free Service Dates and Times:
- Christmas Eve: Free rides start Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2024, at 4 a.m. and continue until Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2024, at 3 a.m.
- New Year’s Eve: Free rides start Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2024, at 4 a.m. and run through Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025, at 3 a.m.
During these times, fare gates at Metro Rail stations will remain unlatched, and TAP cards or other fare media will not be charged.
How to Access Free Metro Rides:
- Metro Micro: Use the code Merry24 on Christmas Eve and Ring24 on New Year’s Eve.
- Metro Bike Share: Rides are free from Dec. 24, 2024, through Jan. 1, 2025, with the code 010125.
Metro Extended Service:
- Metro’s rail lines A, B, D, and E will operate 24-hour service on New Year’s Eve.
- Lines C and K will run until 2 a.m.
- On Jan. 1, 2024, Metro will offer extra early morning trains on the A Line to accommodate those heading to the Rose Parade and Rose Bowl.

LA Metro is also tackling parking violations on two key bus lines. Buses are being equipped with 100 on-board cameras to monitor and address obstructions in bus lanes and at stops.
