An adventure for romantics.
A stunning mile-long (round trip) hike through woodlands will lead you to what seems like an impossibly perfect message of love from nature: A heart-shaped rock with a gorgeous waterfall. This astounding formation mirrors the changing seasons, just like our sensitive human hearts. At some point, it gushes with water and spills into the pools below, giving the secluded cliff life. Other times of the year, when the water dries up, a deep pool lays still and reflects the changing world around it.
The trail follows Seeley Creek on a steady descent to the falls and passes through the shade of towering oaks and pines until it gets to a particularly huge old oak tree. Shortly after, that you’ll see a cliff with not one, but two heart-shaped pools where the waterfall lands.
Along the trail, you won’t be able to miss a dead tree which was known as “The King’s Chair” until vandals broke the thrones back off. Once you reach this landmark you know Heart Rock Overlook is close—which is the best place to take those winning snaps. Keep to the right and follow painted heart signs until you see the perfectly symmetrical granite hearts.
