The San Fernando Valley has lost several classic eateries over the years, and now, another longtime favorite is preparing to close its doors: Heart’s Coffee Shop, a retro diner in Van Nuys that has been serving classic American comfort food for nearly five decades, is permanently shutting down on August 9, 2026.

Opened since 1977, Heart’s Coffee Shop will serve its final meals next month. The closure was announced on Instagram, prompting an emotional response from longtime customers who shared memories of breakfasts, family meals, and visits that stretched back decades.
Located at 16918 Saticoy Street, near Balboa Boulevard, Heart’s Coffee Shop is known for its traditional diner atmosphere, including its vintage interior, counter seating, and menu filled with familiar favorites.
The diner has traditionally operated during morning and early afternoon hours, serving breakfast and lunch rather than late-night meals.
A Valley diner that became part of the neighborhood’s story
Heart’s Coffee Shop’s history stretches back decades, with the restaurant becoming a fixture of the Valley’s classic diner scene. The business has long promoted itself as a 1950s-style American diner serving homemade comfort food, including breakfast plates, omelets, burgers, sandwiches, and traditional favorites.
