Who’s hungry? H.E.R., the Grammy Award-winning R&B singer, has shared her favorite Filipino restaurant in Los Angeles.
The California native, who is from Vallejo, CA and is culturally African American and Filipino, was spotted at Baryo HiFi, a street festival celebrating Filipino-American music, entertainment, food, and creativity, on May 16, 2026.
While there, journalist Raffy Ermac asked the singer about her favorite spot in L.A. to get Filipino food – and H.E.R.’s answer didn’t disappoint.
“Kuya Lord is my favorite,” she answered. “He’s on Melrose.”
What is Kuya Lord?
Described as elevated fast casual, Chef Lord Maynard Llera celebrates regional Filipino dishes that he grew up eating in Lucena City, Quezon Province, Philippines.
According to the website, the food harkens back to Chef Maynard’s childhood while incorporating some classical techniques he learned over the course of his life, “enhancing and reinventing traditional Filipino dishes.”
The menu emphasizes Southern Tagalog cuisine with items like blue prawns, java garlic rice, hiramasa collar, Filipino ramen with slow-braised Duroc pork belly, and much more.
The restaurant is celebrating its fourth anniversary on Saturday, June 20, by kicking off their Kamayan Summer Series, a communal dining experience in the restaurant’s backyard.
