This Sunday, the Hollywood Bowl and Live Nation Urban are throwing an incredible event in honor of Juneteenth.
June 19 known as Juneteenth, commemorates the end of slavery in America and the emancipation of enslaved people. Last year President Joe Biden signed a bill officially granting it a federal holiday. You can learn more about this its significance here.
In honor of this historic day and in celebration of black excellence, the Hollywood Bowl has put together Juneteenth: A Global Celebration for Freedom. The star-studded and legendary lineup includes performances by Khalid, Earth, Wind & Fire, The Roots, Lucky Daye, Jhené Aiko, Robert Glasper, Killer Mike, Billy Porter, Mary Mary, Anthony Hamilton, Michelle Williams, Mickey Guyton, the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, and many more.
It will also be the first time the venue will have an all-Black symphony orchestra led by Thomas Wilkins, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra’s principal conductor. Live and pre-recorded special guests include Michelle Obama, Beyoncé, Yolanda Adams, Miles Brown, J, Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Jill Scott, Susan Kelechi Watson, and many more.
“This is the most important event we’ve ever produced,” Live Nation Urban President Shawn Gee said in a statement. “It’s a moment to celebrate and reflect on Black independence and the Black experience. It’s also a moment to raise awareness and shine light on the miles we still need to travel to true equity. We hope to see you there.”

Juneteenth: A Global Celebration for Freedom will air live worldwide on CNN on Sunday, June 19 at 5P.M PST, along with a pre-show coverage beginning at 4P.M. PST. CNN anchor Don Lemon will be hosting to highlight African-American advocates, icons, and creators.
