Immerse yourself in a floor-to-ceiling world of vivid brushstrokes from Van Gogh’s finest works.
Wander through a multi-sensory scene of midnight blue and brilliant yellow post-impressionist strokes from the Dutch master’s Starry Night. In this sensorial wonderland, Van Gogh’s astonishing masterpieces will be transformed from two-dimensional paintings into a state-of-the-art, three-dimensional universe. If you were looking for a reason to head to the East Coast, then this new THE LUME Indianapolis exhibition arriving in Newfield next summer is the only one you need.
This permanent attraction will boast almost 30,000 square feet and will be the largest continuous exhibition Newfield has ever had in its 137 years of existence, according to the art museum. Guests will step into multisensory scenes, where the artist’s striking colors and brushstrokes are brought to life beneath your feet and across large-scale walls by 150 cutting-edge digital projectors. Guests will be enveloped in a display of around 3,000 moving images of famous works like Sunflowers, scored with beautiful classical music, that will completely transform the fourth floor of the art museum.
Though he died before witnessing the true pinnacle of his success, Van Gogh’s work has taken on a new life in every thinkable form. And it seems as though the insatiable appetite has continued to fuel new experiences around the globe. From the experimental animation Loving Vincent that portrayed his life through his own painterly style, to the similar immersive show la nuit étoilée in Paris, the possibilities seem endless. Toronto even debuted an innovative, “drive-into” version of a similar exhibition in response to the pandemic. There are rumors that Los Angeles could be next, but so far nothing has been confirmed.
For a tortured soul, his most beloved works exude fervent energy that never ceases to captivate the world and deliver rapturous delight. This new show created by Australian-based Grande Experiences promises to be no different.
THE LUME Indianapolis will debut in June 2021, with tickets released prior to the grand opening. So you’ll want to sign up to find out more on Newfield’s website here.
