John Mulaney is back and ready to make Angelenos laugh at ourselves with John Mulaney Presents Everybody Is In L.A. The beloved comedian hosted a special live event in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Bowl on Saturday, May 4th. This unique event was part of Netflix’s comedy festival called Netflix Is A Joke Fest. The comedy festival returned this year with even more uproarious entertainment that made us laugh till we cried.
The initial critics’ response to the show has been overwhelmingly positive. Mulaney and Netflix took a chance with the live nature of the show, and it paid off. Live talk shows are increasingly a thing of the past, yet Mulaney managed to make it fresh and fun. It can even feel a bit chaotic at times with Jon Stewart stating, “I feel like this entire show is a Banksy!”
One of the best aspects of the six episode series is its timeless nature. It doesn’t feel topical in the way that normal talk shows do. Most of the topics were truly focused on L.A. themes like news helicopters, palm trees, and of course, earthquakes. Most of the jokes and bits will still be funny in the years to come as Angelenos continue to laugh at ourselves and our beloved city. The show really feels like a love letter to Los Angeles and all of the fun craziness that comes with living here.
Mulaney hosted a special one-night-only live show where he performed his hilarious stand-up comedy that made him so famous. Plus, he was joined by some surprise special guests like David Letterman, Bill Hader, and Sarah Silverman. Mulaney’s goal was to highlight and honor the uniquely amazing culture of Los Angeles through comedy. You can watch the entirety of the six part series on Netflix right now.
A diverse group of Angelenos described the show in a special teaser for Netflix. As shots of L.A. showed in the background, they say, “John Mulaney explores the city of Los Angeles with his comedian friends, featuring people equal to, but not necessarily, Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock and David Letterman.” The Angelenos continue with, “No one is confirmed yet, but a lot of people are in play. Everyone who passed did it in a nice, very funny way. It’s a celebration of L.A. We’ll have music. We’ll have one of those delivery robots, fingers crossed. We’ll have local L.A. county officials talking to the biggest names in comedy.”
