Los Angeles has always been a city of contradictions, where glittering success and crushing failure live side by side. That duality is at the heart of HBO’s new comedy series, I Love L.A., starring Rachel Sennott Josh Hutcherson and Leighton Meester, and premiering Sunday, November 2 at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT.
The show follows a tight-knit circle of friends reuniting in the city. Together, they navigate precarious careers, fraught relationships, and the hyper-stylized chaos that only L.A. can provide. Equal parts razor-sharp satire and heartfelt comedy, it captures the absurdity of adulting in the City of Angels while celebrating the messy, often catastrophic ways friends show up for each other.
Josh Hutcherson On Navigating the L.A. Dream
Josh Hutcherson, best known for The Hunger Games, stars as Dylan in the show and captured the city’s duality during a recent panel: “So many people are drawn to this place with big dreams. And so there’s a lot of big dreamers, but also a lot of failure, like right side by side.”
He went on to reflect on what makes L.A. uniquely compelling, “I’ve met some of the most annoying, frustrating, superficial people in the world here in L.A. But then I’ve also met the most amazing, deep, profound creators as well. This city just draws such a spectrum of people and I kind of love that about it.”
What Makes I Love L.A. Special

Created by and starring Rachel Sennott the series draws from her own early experiences in L.A. At a recent panel, she shared the highs and lows, of finding her place in the city.: “I wrote the show based off of my feelings when I first moved to L.A. in COVID and I was feeling really isolated…then one day you look around and you’re like, I love it here and this is my home.”
Ever relatable, she jokes: “I felt like I didn’t have a lot of friends here and I, I started going through my Saturn return and it was just…chaotic.” She also pokes fun at L.A.’s infamous chaos: “When I first got here it was like a car accident every three months…now I have insurance and it’s awesome!”
The series was shot in real L.A. locations, from the city reservoir to neighborhood coffee spots. “We got to shoot in places that we go all the time,” Sennott adds.
With an ensemble including Rachel Sennott, Josh Hutcherson and Odessa A’zion, plus guest stars like Leighton Meester and Elijah Wood, I Love L.A. blends humor and heart in a way that’s sure to capture Angelenos everywhere.
