The Broad’s newest exhibition Keith Haring: Art is for Everybody is now open.
This exhibit is the first ever museum in Los Angeles to present Keith Haring’s work featuring over 120 artworks and archival materials from the iconic artist. Even if you don’t know his name, surely you recognize his work. His simple yet graffiti-like designs are recognized all around the world—from his iconic Barking Dog to his Radiant Baby.
When you first enter the exhibit, you are greeted by a room full of collaboration pieces by Haring and fellow artist LA II AKA Angel Ortiz. A significant acknowledgment to both of the artists who worked together for six years in the early 1980’s. As you make your way through the ten galleries, you will come across all the mediums Haring worked with from videos to sculptures, to drawings and more.
“Keith Haring’s global influence and enduring impact are profound, and The Broad is thrilled to bring our audience in Los Angeles this sweeping exhibition of his work,” said Joanne Heyler, Founding Director of The Broad. “It is our distinct pleasure to share a deep and varied representation of his emblematic visual language and to highlight the prolific ways he spoke through his art and activism about social issues while celebrating joy, solidarity, community and hope.”
The phenomenal exhibition explores the messages shared through Haring’s activist art, such as environmentalism, capitalism, to sexuality and race. Although created decades ago, each piece you come across still evokes emotions and realities that are still very much felt today.
Keith Haring: Art is for Everybody exhibition will run from May 27 to October 8, 2023.
