The Sacramento Kings are making history with a new initiative to enhance accessibility for blind and low-vision fans. In collaboration with OneCourt, the Kings will provide haptic display technology at Golden 1 Center for the remainder of the 2024-25 NBA season.
How the OneCourt system works
The OneCourt device translates live game action into real-time audio and touch-based vibrations, allowing users to follow plays with their fingertips. Also, the technology syncs with the NBA’s live tracking system to ensure fans can experience every pass, shot, and dunk in real-time.
Fans can check out these devices at Guest Services near Sections 109 and 207, free of charge. Five units will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at every home game.
This will make Kings basketball more accessible than ever. They will also be able to share the game with every basketball fan in a positive way.
Accessibility for blind fans, a commitment for the Kings
This initiative is part of the Kings’ ongoing mission to create an inclusive environment for all fans. Golden 1 Center already features various accessibility services. Now, the addition of OneCourt reinforces the team’s dedication to ensuring everyone can enjoy live basketball action.
Kings lead the way
The Kings are among the first NBA teams to integrate this groundbreaking technology. They are joining a growing movement to make professional sports more inclusive. Also, the partnership highlights the importance of accessibility in live entertainment and sets a new standard for other franchises to follow.
This move cements Sacramento as a leader in inclusive sports experiences and will lead the way for other sports franchises to develop technology for fans of all disabilities.
As accessibility technology continues to evolve, more teams and venues may look to Sacramento’s leadership in this space. With the Kings pioneering this initiative, blind and low-vision fans now have a revolutionary way to engage with the game. Basketball is truly for everyone.
