Right on time for Kobe Day on August 24, 2023, the Lakers alongside Vanessa Bryant, have announced that they will unveil a statue honoring the late Kobe Bryant.
“As you know, Kobe played his entire 20-year NBA career as a Los Angeles Laker,” said Vanessa Bryant in the video. “Since arriving in this city and joining the Lakers organization, he felt at home here, playing in the City of Angels.”
His statue will join other Lakers legends like Elgin Baylor, Shaquille O’Neal, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Jerry West, and Chick Hearn in front of the Crypto.com Arena. Of course, that’s not all the greats the statue will be close to. The plaza also includes Los Angeles Kings’ Wayne Gretzky, Luc Robitaille, Dustin Brown, and announcer Bob Miller, along with champion boxer and fellow Angeleno Oscar De La Hoya.
“On behalf of the Lakers, my daughters, and me, I am so honored that, right in the center of Los Angeles, in front of the place known as the house that Kobe built, we are going to unveil his statue so that his legacy can be celebrated forever,” she also shared.
