Losing something on the L.A. Metro can quickly turn into a real headache. With sprawling routes, multiple lines, and transfers across the city, a misplaced jacket, phone, or set of keys can feel impossible to track down! Luckily, there’s a little-known service that helps riders breathe easier: the Metro Lost & Found.
Located near the A Line Heritage Square Station, the facility is a massive warehouse devoted entirely to forgotten items. It’s a full-scale operation that processes roughly 14,000 to 15,000 items every year.
From smartphones to flat-screen TVs

The array of lost property is often bizarre. While most of us can think of lost cell phones, backpacks, and tools, the staff has also encountered objects as big as bikes, PlayStations and XBoxes, 55-inch big-screen TVs, prosthetic limbs, a kitty litter and even a stop sign.
Despite the ease of reporting a lost item online or in-person, only about 25% of items are ever claimed. Lost items are held for 90 days. If unclaimed, items are sold at auction, except for bicycles, some of which go to the Metro’s “Adopt-A-Bike” program. Personal information is destroyed or shredded before the auction process.
The service exists to reassure riders, allowing them to relax and enjoy their commute without the immediate worry of a forgotten belonging. If you’ve recently lost any of your belongings, you can check the Lost and Found warehouse Monday to Saturday, 9AM to 5PM.
