Getting around L.A. just got a whole lot easier, cardio friendly and more fun. LA Metro has officially opened its new Rail to Rail Active Transportation Corridor, a safe and convenient bike and pedestrian path connecting the Metro K Line Fairview Heights Station with the Metro A Line Slauson Station.
Segment A is already open, and planning is still underway for Segment B, which will stretch the path all the way to the L.A. River. To celebrate this, LA Metro and Metro Bike Share are inviting everyone to join a beginner-friendly community bike ride this weekend.
The free event kicks off and wraps up at the Compton and Slauson Station, featuring a relaxed three-mile round trip that’s perfect for riders of all skill levels. Participants will pedal from the station to the South Los Angeles Wetlands Park and head back through Augustus F. Hawkins Nature Park. Along the way, riders can stop for a snack at Granny’s Kitchen Southern Style Soul Food, a tasty bonus on this scenic route.
If you’re interested in joining, don’t forget to bring a water bottle, your TAP card or some cash for Metro fare, and a working bike, unless you plan to borrow one from Metro Bike Share, which are free to use for 30 minutes at a time this weekend with promo code 060625. They’ll also offer free bikes to riders 16 and older who register ahead of time.
Helmets are available at no cost, too. Just keep in mind that kids need to be with an adult, and training wheels aren’t allowed. Everyone will need to sign a waiver before hitting the trail. Find all the event details here.
