Chef Pyet DeSpain is bringing the first Indigenous Fusion Cuisine to Downtown Los Angeles through this special pop-up at Abernethy’s restaurant. As the Emerging Chef-in-Residence at Abernethy’s, she’s shaking things up with her unique menu filled with Indigenous Mexican and Native American ingredients. Chef DeSpain will be there from now until spring 2025. This pop-up is part of The Music Center’s Emerging Chefs Program.
Indigenous Fusion Cuisine
Chef Pyet DeSpain is a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation Tribe and spent part of her childhood on the Osage Indian Reservation. Her life’s work is dedicated to cooking and promoting Indigenous Fusion Cuisine. She combines the food of her heritage, both Native American and Mexican, and seeks to promote Indigenous ingredients in every day cooking. Chef DeSpain’s “passion is to uplift indigenous culture and traditions via storytelling, traveling, and cooking.”
Next Level Credentials
Chef DeSpain is the very first winner of Chef Gordon Ramsay’s TV show, Next Level Chef on Fox. Plus, Chef DeSpain was named top 25 best private chefs in Los Angeles by Entrepreneur Magazine in 2021. She attended culinary school and has a certification in Wellness & Nutrition.
