This Major SoCal Freeway Will See Overnight Closures This Week — Here’s The Full List Of SR-91 Lane & Connector Closures

Your late-night commute could take a little longer this week with extended overnight closures along State Route 91 — here’s what to know before you hit the road and how to plan around the delays.

Your late-night cruising just got a little bit more complicated. If you travel along State Route 91 this week, expect overnight lane reductions, connector shutdowns, and ramp closures stretching from Cerritos to Gardena.

California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is rolling out multiple overnight closures along State Route 91 (SR-91) starting Monday, Feb. 23 through Saturday morning, Feb. 28 for K-rail installation as part of a major sign rehabilitation project.

Important: There will be no overnight closures Monday night, Feb. 23, 2026.

🚗 Where & When To Expect Lane Reductions

Overnight, both directions of SR-91 will be reduced to two lanes between:

  • Vermont Avenue (Gardena)
  • The Orange County line at PM 20.7 (Cerritos)

Rolling full closures of connectors and ramps will occur as crews move between locations. Detour routes will be clearly marked.

Below is the complete list of closures exactly as scheduled:

Monday night, Feb. 23 through Friday morning, Feb. 27

Eastbound SR-91

  • Closure of up to three lanes on eastbound SR-91 from Vermont Avenue to I-710, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Closure of up to three lanes on eastbound SR-91 from I-710 to I-605, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Closure of up to two lanes on eastbound SR-91 from I-605 to Orange County line, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Westbound SR-91

  • Closure of up to three lanes on westbound SR-91 from Atlantic Avenue to Vermont Avenue from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Closure of up to three lanes on westbound SR-91 from I-605 to Atlantic Avenue from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Closure of up to two lanes on westbound SR-91 from Orange County line at PM 20.7 to I-605 from 11:59 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Friday night, Feb. 27 through Saturday morning, Feb. 28

Eastbound SR-91

  • Closure of up to three lanes on eastbound SR-91 from Vermont Avenue to I-710, from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m.
  • Closure of up to three lanes on eastbound SR-91 from I-710 to I-605, from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • Closure of up to three lanes on eastbound SR-91 from I-605 to Orange County line, from 11:59 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Westbound SR-91

  • Closure of up to three lanes on westbound SR-91 from Atlantic Avenue to Vermont Avenue from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • Closure of up to three lanes on westbound SR-91 from I-605 to Atlantic Avenue from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • Closure of up to two lanes on westbound SR-91 from Orange County line at PM 20.7 to I-605 from 11:59 p.m. to 6 a.m.

🏗 Why It’s Happening: The $34 Million Upgrade

This isn’t random construction. Caltrans is investing $34 million into a 14.7-mile stretch of SR-91 in Los Angeles County. The project will:

  • Rehabilitate and upgrade roadside and overhead signs
  • Improve lighting
  • Restore highway landscaping
  • Replace guardrails
  • Enhance worker safety

The contractor, Security Paving Company, Inc., is leading the work. The project is expected to be completed in summer 2029.
