Save the best ’til last, at the legendary Last Bookstore.
This gorgeous independent bookstore proves that big can be beautiful. Offering 22,000 sq. ft. of luscious literature, The Last Bookstore might be the largest bookstore in L.A. (and perhaps even California), but owner Josh Spencer refuses to rest on his laurels. [Header photo: @louis_cai]
Instead, the store is full of all kinds of quirky, pretty touches, from this photogenic frame…
To a bookcase of novels taking flight…
And a frankly stunning tunnel of books to journey through.
It’s all deeply charming in the most Hogwartsian sort of way.
But as fresh new profile pics don’t pay the bills, you’ll want to support this one-of-a-kind store with a few thoughtful purchases. Just as well, then, that you’ll be absolutely spoiled for choice.
A quarter-million books line the shelves, along with vinyl records, graphic novels and other irresistible potential purchases. And there are plenty worse ways to blow your paycheck than buying a huge quantity of beautiful books, after all.
The Last Bookstore hosts events nearly every night, often featuring A-List authors performing readings and Q&A’s. There are also quirky book clubs to join: ‘The Thing In The Labyrinth’ for horror fans, ‘We’re All Gonna Die!’ for lovers of dystopian literature, and other groups around feminism, Afrofuturism, true crime and gothic stories.
