Yes, the iconic 80s record shop will be revived in Studio City.
No, we’re not referring to Paul Thomas Anderson’s most recent coming-of-age flick, we’re talking about the iconic (currently-defunct) record chain. Rising from the nostalgic ashes, the treasured record store will return to its former glory as a hip 70s and 80s boutique in Studio City. You’ll get to browse vintage clothing, collectibles, records and other relics of the era for a limited time.
One of the greatest things about living in L.A. is the fact the lines between Hollywood and real life are always a little blurred. Fictitious worlds often spill over into day-to-day life so instantaneously, that the two seem to seamlessly merge. So, it’s no surprise that the Award-winning director’s 2021 film Licorice Pizza has inspired a visit to the past with a store opening alongside the Landmark theaters’ 70 mm screenings. The event will take place over a week through February 10 serving up a slice of retro nostalgia with pinball machines, pizza and licorice pairings. On Friday and Saturday, there’ll be DJs spinning groovy tunes that will transport you back to the California summer in 1973.
While this Landmark Theater pop-up is mostly just a result of divine timing, the store on Venture Boulevard in Studio City is here to stay. You can find out more here.
