Allstate just released its 18th annual America’s Best Drivers Report, which analyzes auto insurance claims data across the 200 largest U.S. cities.
And out of those 200, Los Angeles ranked as the 9th most collision-prone city in the country, with the average L.A. driver experiencing a collision once every 5.99 years. That’s well below the national average of 10.86 years.
Glendale was the only California city to rank lower than L.A. at #6, with drivers experiencing collisions every 5.53 years.
The safest and most dangerous cities
At the top of the safety rankings, Brownsville, Texas, holds the No. 1 spot for the second consecutive year, with drivers going nearly 15 years between collisions. The top 10 safest cities include Fort Collins, CO at #2; Boise, ID at #3; Laredo, TX at #4; and Cary, NC at #5.
On the opposite end, Boston, Massachusetts, remains the most collision-prone city in the country, with drivers averaging just 3.76 years between crashes — making them 189% more likely to experience a collision than the national average. Among the top 10 riskiest cities, you’ll also find Washington, D.C.; Baltimore, MD: Worcester, MA; and Springfield, MA.

Allstate examined property damage claims filed between January 2023 and December 2024 across the 200 most populous U.S. cities, as defined by U.S. Census Bureau data.
Rankings reflect how frequently drivers in each city cause damage to others, expressed as average years between collisions compared to the national baseline. Allstate’s auto policies represent approximately 10% of all U.S. auto policies, giving the dataset broad national coverage.
The report also incorporates aggregated data from Allstate’s Drivewise program — covering speeding, hard braking, phone use, and nighttime driving — collected throughout 2025, to provide additional context on driving habits by city.
