For more than seven years, Los Angeles locals have watched an enormous $1 billion “floating spaceship” take shape in Exposition Park.
Only a few months remain: the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art will finally open to the public on September 22, 2026. And today, the museum officially revealed its inaugural exhibitions.
While many assumed the Lucas Museum would be a giant shrine to Star Wars, the 100,000-square foot space will comprise 18 exhibitions spread across 32 galleries — and curated by the one and only George Lucas.
One of the exhibition spaces is, of course, dedicated to Cinema, and this is where the legendary Lucas Archives will be on display, featuring original concept art, costumes, and props from Star Wars and Indiana Jones.
Traditional museums tend to organize art by time periods and famous painters, but the Lucas Museum presents works grouped by emotion and storytelling.
According to Variety, the 18 inaugural exhibitions are listed as follows:
- Architecture
- Benton
- Children’s Stories
- Cinema
- Everyday Life
- Civic LIfe
