LUMINEX, a free annual outdoor digital art exhibition, is set to transform Downtown Los Angeles on October 5, 2024. This immersive event will turn the city’s streets and buildings into a vibrant, walkable multimedia installation for one night only, featuring nine artists showcasing their work within a five-block radius in the South Park District.
“We transform the city blocks as the exhibition site and its buildings as the canvas. In this unique platform, artists are able to share their work with our diverse public audience directly, allowing for an exchange to happen across all sectors of society unlike any other,” said Carmen Zella, Founder & Chief Curator of the event. “In our amazing City of Los Angeles, we boast both the infrastructure and talent to create such an experience. It’s a curator’s dream, and the magic that unfolds is unparalleled to anything I’ve ever been a part of or witnessed.”
The opening event begins at 7 p.m. at 11th and Margo St., where attendees can experience Refik Anadol’s stunning piece. Following this, a processional led by artist JOJO ABOT will set the tone for the evening. Pedicabs will be available to navigate the exhibition route, which can be booked before the event; please see their website for booking details. Complimentary rides will be offered for differently-abled individuals.
Under the curatorial vision of Carmen Zella, LUMINEX will present a diverse array of sound art installations, performances, and multimedia works by artists including JOJO ABOT, Refik Anadol, Alice Bucknell, Nao Bustamante, Petra Cortright, Marc Horowitz, Carole Kim, and Sarah Rara. Attendees can expect to engage with the art and explore themes of chaos and order, identity, and the environment as they stroll through the transformed urban landscape of Los Angeles.
